The 4 Decision Method to MAKE MORE TIME!

Uncategorized Oct 20, 2020

"If only I could make more time! I wish there were 48 hours in a day! There should be a stop-time button!"

Ever hear yourself saying things like this out loud? Or even in your head as you look at what needs to be done TODAY?

Are you a time-optimist like me?

Even the most optimistic among us feel like they just need more time each day.

I call myself a "time-optimist." You know, someone who thinks they can squeeze everything into a short window, no problem.

While this optimism is great, it often results in late-ness, frustration, and the feeling of not having everything completed...Three things we all wish to avoid as entrepreneurs!

But still, I refuse to aim low and settle....That being said, I am no longer interested in trading my health for my to-do list. That means I've had to get creative, fierce about boundaries, and find ways to get more done in a day as a momma of three businesses and three babies.

Can you really make more time?

I've also come to realize how highly elastic time is–it bends to your choice and your focus. Instead of telling yourself you don't HAVE time, shift your thinking to "I haven't MADE time for it."

I've used that particular thought process to MAKE MORE TIME in each day. Yes–it really can be done!

How do I do this, you ask?

For starters, I've learned to ask some really great questions and focus on what matters most!

Let me share those questions with you.

The 4 Decision Method to Free Up Your Time

Whether you're currently facing a time crunch or you just want to make more time in each and every day, start by asking yourself these questions

  1. Deleted?

Can this task be deleted? Ask yourself why this task is on the list in the first place. Does it really need to be done? Is it in line with your personal why? Or vision? If the answer is no, it's time to delete!

  1. Digital?

So if it can’t be deleted, can it be made digital? AKA can you automate it?

Maybe this means setting up automatic bill payments or invoices for clients. There are lots of great digital automation tools for doing this. For my own digital business needs, I'm a big fan of HoneyBook. It's made it easy for me to create the systems and automations I need to free up that time to focus on things that CAN'T be automated...like dinner for the kids or coaching calls with clients!

  1. Delegate?

Can I delegate someone else to do this or teach someone else to do it?

Even if it takes some time to teach something to someone, it results in a lot more saved time for you down the road. Invest a bit of time in teaching or training now, and you'll be amazed at the return you get on that investment.

  1. Do Later?

Ask yourself, "do I really need to do this task now or can I DO LATER?" The things that reaaaally need to be done now, can be done now. Anything else can wait. And chances are, a lot of the things you're feeling pressured to finish right now, aren't as time-sensitive as you might think!

Another way to make more time? Get FIERCE

Do you feel like you're always saying yes to things even if–in the back of your mind–you're thinking "I don't have time for this!"?  This could come from a fear of disappointing others, being a people-pleaser, or from a scarcity mindset...You know, that feeling of "If I say no to this, I won't get another opportunity."

But when we get fierce with our time and our boundaries, we'll find time starts to work and bend in our favour. When we prioritize what's most important to use by being fierce about our boundaries and schedules, things start to fall into place, in the right time, in a way they never have before.
