Let me tell you something you already know: we’re living in extraordinary times. And at times like these, we need extraordinary leaders. And now for something you might not be as sure of: You’re one of those extraordinary leaders! It's true. You were born for this, and now is the time to take the reins of your life and become the leader you’re meant to be. 

Why Now is Your Time to Lead

I know you’re here, reading these words, for a very important reason. Whether your inner voice has been whispering, saying it, or screaming it for some time now, you know you’re a leader. And I know it too! I also know you have a powerful, brilliant perspective we are ready to hear. 

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to take action! 

Become the Leader You Were Meant to Be

Here are some steps you can take today on your journey to becoming the leader you were born to be. 

Focus on Soul Development (a.k.a. "Self-Development")

Before you can begin to lead others on the same path, you need to work on becoming the best, highest, version of yourself. Of course, this is a life-long practice with no real finish line. Remind yourself that you’re never done learning, but those who take steps to keep learning give themselves a great advantage.

As for what you can do today? Ask this question: Where is life asking me to grow? 

Listen to your inner voice on where -listen to where life is nugging you.

Then, start. Pick up a book on a subject you’ve always wanted to learn more about, sign up for a public speaking course, start studying the leaders you admire, or find a mentor. Each of these steps toward your own self-development also help you become a better leader at the same time. 

Act Like the Leader You Want to Be

If you’re waiting until the day you run a multi-million dollar corporation to start acting like the leader you want to be, you could be waiting a long time. Instead, start embodying what that type of leader looks like to you today!

How do you do that? You start by cultivating leadership presence. I have a whole blog post on that subject here (don’t miss it!). It includes this practice to help you begin cultivating leadership presence:

“I want you to grab a pen and paper. Begin to reflect on what leadership means to you. What are the qualities a great leader should exemplify? Get very clear on the items in this list. Be specific in regards to the industry you operate in and the type of team you lead. 

Then, take one item and choose an actionable step for that item that will help you cultivate that presence.”

Find a Mentor, Teacher, or Coach

Something every great leader will tell you is that they didn’t get to where they are by themselves. Quite the opposite, in fact. They look to teachers, mentors, coaches, and other guides who are further along the path for the support, knowledge, and insight they need to become a better leader.
