Is Burnout Inevitable for Entrepreneurs?

Uncategorized Jul 07, 2021

Burnout is a lot more than just a buzzword. In fact, it’s an all too common reality for entrepreneurs around the world. And it might look a little different for each person. But in most cases, entrepreneurial burnout involves stress, irritability, frequent illness, anxiety, loss of passion or interest, and feelings of overwhelm.

Burnout + Entrepreneurs: A Match Made in Heaven?

Not so fast.

And let me guess: as an entrepreneur, you’re thinking, “Isn’t that just part of the job?!”

Not if you ask me! Burnout isn’t inevitable. That is, if you’re proactive in taking steps to combat the onset (and effects) of burnout.

How Entrepreneurs Can Avoid Burnout

Today, I’m going to tell you how to do just that!

Fierce Boundaries

Yes, we’re back to fierce boundaries again! These are so, so, so important not only in avoiding burnout, but creating a healthy balance in work and life in general.

As tough as it is to say no sometimes, adhering to the boundaries you set for yourself is the single most important thing you can do to prevent entrepreneurial burnout.

Looking for specific strategies to get ruthless with your time and boundaries? Head here next.

Work With Your Ideal Clients

When you work with your ideal clients, burnout is a lot less likely to happen. If you’re saying yes to every client who comes your way, regardless of whether they’re a good fit, you’re bound to end up frustrated and overwhelmed. But with your ideal clients, it’s easier to keep healthy boundaries and find joy in your work.

This blog post includes tips for defining your ideal client so you can get started on attracting them!

Prioritize Your Vitality

If you have five tasks left to cross off your list in a day, but you also wanted to fit in a yoga practice, what is going to take priority? For most entrepreneurs, we convince ourselves that crossing off our work-related tasks are more important than any of our vitality practices we create for ourselves.

But here’s the thing, if you don’t prioritize your vitality, what are the odds you’re going to do a great job on your work? Or at least feel good doing it? Prioritizing your vitality (sleep, nutrition, breath, movement, spirituality) is absolutely essential to avoiding entrepreneurial burnout.

Find the Right Support

I don’t care who you are or what you do—we ALL need support. But finding the right support can be tricky. (I cover how to do that in this post)

For many entrepreneurs, this support comes in the form of a business coach. With their guidance and experience on your side, you’ll be better able to spot the signs of burnout before they hit you hard. At the same time, they can help you set up your life and business in a way that’s balanced, healthy, and less likely to lead to burnout.
